Seita Koyama, 29 lives a quiet, reclusive life in Tokyo, burdened by a criminal record for skipping out on a taxi fare. One day, drawn by the voice of a television reporter, he finds himself in the rural town of Ikeda in Fukui Prefecture.

While the locals eye him with suspicion, a young neighbor, Miyuki Shimizu, 27, takes an interest in Seita and begins to look after him.

Though Seita initially finds Miyuki's overly familiar demeanor annoying, he gradually warms up to him—and to the community. But as winter deepens, a certain incident forces both men to confront painful truths from their pasts.
