Out On Film is happy to offer its annual assemblage of Atlanta- and Georgia-specific fare. Ben, a trans man with a bright and joyful life and community, agrees to meet his traditional father for coffee after 7 years of estrangement. A middle school science teacher finds herself caught in a delicate situation. Mal just wants this tutoring session to be over so she can get some sleep, but her tutor Lillith has eyes for more than just the math problems. Jade, a black trans woman, navigates the challenges of dysphoria and finds solace in her community. After accidentally standing up someone for a first date, Sage finds herself enamored by a new unexpected love interest. Clara and June navigate a bizarre night together thanks to an unlikely hero: a dead cat named Beans.
In a future America torn apart by civil war, Jade, a Black transgender woman, navigates her daily routine of feeding chickens, doing laundry the old-fashioned way, and prepping crops, all while struggling with intense dysphoria in a world without access to gender-affirming hormones. Working at a queer clinic with her nonbinary best friend Starr, Jade helps community members and faces her own emotional battles. Her cisgender partner, Aiden, encourages her to talk about her feelings after a high-alert CODE ANSLEY is announced, reminding them of the harsh realities they live in. Jade's jealousy and sadness are heightened when she sees Aiden assisting someone at the clinic, leading Starr to offer support and makeup to affirm Jade's gender. The story culminates with Jade using the makeup to feel more feminine and vulnerably connecting with Aiden during a community celebration, highlighting the power of queer joy and resilience in desperate times.
