This heart-warming story set in the coldest of climates follows Ellesmere, a fit and instantly loveable Canadian Inuit yearling sled dog as she sets off on her first training expedition and rite of passage. 
With the right experience and discipline Ellesmere has the potential to be the next alpha female. She must learn the survival skills from the matriarchs that came before her in order to not only earn, but to defend her position in the dog pack. 
​Running on the Great Slave Lake is no easy task. Ellesmere, along with her musher and pack, must navigate strong winds, snowstorms and pack dynamics. Whatever happens, Ellesmere will find that every dog has a place in the pack.

This short PSA created by our fall Huliau Environmental Filmmaking Club students outlines ways in which the COVID-19 pandemic has been contributing to plastic pollution globally. The students also share ways in which we can all avoid these additional single-use plastic items and prevent the global "plastic pandemic" from getting worse.

10-year-old Bryn made a claymation movie about the importance of "natural solutions for your bug problems" - something she's passionate about. The idea came after one of her "grub hunting" sessions (she loves gathering grubs for the birds and lizards).Bryn loves the environment and all creatures but clarifies, "My movie is not violent... it's just the circle of life."

Hal, a first-time wildlife filmmaker, presents his first short wildlife documentary, IMARA. Hal created this film during a one-month internship in South Africa. He trained in wildlife documentary filmmaking and used his knowledge from film school to create a compelling story.This story of survival amongst lions shows the strength and fragility of family relationships and status within the pride.

SYRCL’s Wild & Scenic Film Festival education team curates age-appropriate, engaging and inspiring content for TK-2, 3rd-5th, 6th-8th and 9th-12th grade film screenings. Essentially, each student audience gets their very own film festival! An important part of our school programs, the Wild & Scenic education team creates film-specific, standards-based curriculum for participating educators from local elementary, middle, and high schools for further classroom enrichment.
