This block of films takes viewers on a journey from the grasslands of Florida to the forests of Yurok territory, from the microscopic world of insects to the expansive habitats of elephants. Each film showcases the dedication of individuals working to protect and understand our environment, while also highlighting the importance of diverse approaches to conservation.
The block emphasizes themes of resilience, traditional wisdom, and the interconnectedness of all living things. It demonstrates how small actions and shifts in perspective can have significant impacts on our understanding and preservation of the natural world
Thanks to our event sponsors Salty Raven, Columbia River Maritime Museum, International League of Conservation Photographers, Pro Photo Supply, Astoria Co-Op, Cannon Beach Book Company, and Tuff Puffin for helping us to bring these incredible films to Astoria!
Sometimes you just need to look a little closer... Summit Journal's revival issue — the title's first in over 27 years, which came out in February 2024 — features an essay by the great Angie Payne, accompanied by a photo gallery of her macrophotography. In the essay, Angie, the first woman to climb V13, reflects on the intense pressure she put upon herself to excel as a top boulderer, and how photographing the tiniest details helped her see the bigger picture.
