Told entirely through sign language, without narration or interpretation, Deafness in Ghana traces how a generation of Deaf Ghanaians came to understand their own disability and how Ghanaian society came to understand them. Through intimate testimony from participants across the country, the film examines how deafness is acquired and perceived, confronting the gap between long-held societal assumptions and the lived reality Deaf people describe in their own words. At its center is the story of the Ghana National Association of the Deaf (GNAD): its formation, and its role in expanding Deaf Ghanaians' access to education and opportunity. Woven throughout is a portrait of deaf activism in Ghana, the ongoing fight to be seen, heard, and included on equal terms. >>Website<<
