In early 2026, SAFF launched its own filmmaking competition, partnering with schools to inspire and nurture a new generation of filmmakers. And this initiative wasn’t limited to Canada. We’re delighted to showcase four short films created by the next generation of talented young filmmakers from across the globe.

This vibrant documentary, captures a discussion with Connie, the founder of Puerto Libre, a beautiful municipal garden run by individuals with disabilities. Connie shares the moving history of the garden and how the thriving community that exists today was gradually built over time.

As young storytellers, the filmmakers wanted to truly understand her mission before filming. They spent a day volunteering at the garden: planting, painting plant boxes, and bonding over a shared merienda (snack). This immersive process helped them discover the power of this community.

The filmmakers found Connie's story deeply moving and felt it was an important narrative to share to inspire initiatives that build deeper human connections through community.
