In early 2026, SAFF launched its own filmmaking competition, partnering with schools to inspire and nurture a new generation of filmmakers. And this initiative wasn’t limited to Canada. We’re delighted to showcase four short films created by the next generation of talented young filmmakers from across the globe.

This short documentary explores La Reserva Ecológica de Vicente López in La Lucila, Buenos Aires, a space created to protect local biodiversity and bring people closer to nature within an urban environment. The filmmakers interview the head coordinator of the eco-park to not only highlight the place itself, but to also provide the perspective of someone who has been part of its development and who understands the work behind it.

Through the interview, we learn about the reserve’s background, its purposes, and the journey towards building and maintaining a space for environmental conservation. The film combines interviews with footage of the reserve to show both the human effort and the natural environment it seeks to protect.

Through their film, the filmmakers seek to discover how much can be communicated by listening to and documenting someone’s personal experience and how this can change the way we view a place. The film also teaches us that story-telling can help people notice and appreciate important spaces in their own communities, while also allowing us to look more closely at the relationship between people and the environment.
