During her time at George Brown College in the <a href="https://www.jorgendance.ca/george-brown-dance/dance-performance-p105/" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">Dance Performance program</a>, she has had the chance to learn and perform repertoire pieces choreographed by Bengt Jörgen, under the supervision of ballet master Hiroto Saito. Previously, Rose Juliette was taught by Owen Montague and Christine Cyr at Ballet Divertimento, where she received the Meritas Bursary in 2019. Rose Juliette has worked with acclaimed choreographers Roberto Campanella, Hanna Kiel, and Jera Wolf during intensive training programs. The emerging artist is a member of Bravo’s Dance Company where she performs Brazilian samba for corporate and commercial events across the city. Rose received the REAson d'etre dance's Modern Technique award in 2024. Rose performed in&nbsp;EMERGENCE&nbsp;April 2024 with George Brown Dance and in&nbsp;Transhumance&nbsp;May 2024 with Corpus Dance Projects. Her Film Passerby was selected for screening at the 2024 Contact Dance Film Festival. <img src="https://storage.googleapis.com/eventive-static/7f4e767cb1e12fb2e189278ebc63d599.jpg" width="111">Holly Gill is a Toronto based dance artist born in Oxford, Nova Scotia. She previously performed and worked of esteemed choreographers Allison Bradley and Ryan Lee in George Brown College’s annual performance&nbsp;UNLEASHED. Recently, Holly has also performed as a dancer, singer, choreographer, and director of Cumberland Performing Art’s&nbsp;Journey Through the Genres. Currently, Holly is a graduate of the Dance Performance Program at George Brown College. Prior to her post-secondary studies, Holly had extensive training in Ballet (Vaganova) Jazz, Contemporary, and Hip-Hop. Holly has many years of experience teaching dance in a variety of styles and at a variety of locations to diverse age groups. It has lifts but we thought it could be improved by adding some lifts from Contact Improv...It was filmed at a Kizomba social and the surprising part was that, when the female dancer lifted the male, the audience went wild.Since traditionally the lead and lifter in Kizomba is male, it was very surprising for them to see a female lifting. Yet, when we see that things are falling into place, we face a reality check that is no different than from any other immigrant: a status. When we think about our future, an overwhelming feeling comes inside our heads asking “What’s next?”Marriage? Talent? Alien? As we analyze the options and balance the future, we say to ourselves “I just want to create and share with this city what I’m ready to offer” yet we must withhold ourselves, because these frontiers (both legal and mental) start crippling and restraining. The purpose of this video is to show all immigrant artists and dancers that we’re not alone. That even if they’re some bumps on the way, we together can uplift and come through to follow our dreams. The Director has already directed films for BMW, Budweiser, Johnnie Walker, Renault, Mentos, Asics, among others. He has already worked with names like Gilberto Gil, Caetano Velozo, Emicida, among others. Pedro is currently working on his feature film Floresta em Cena, shot for over 8 years in the Amazon rainforest and has international experience in several productions. Pedro was the creator of the first 100% sensory film in the world. His curriculum includes the production and direction of 8 short films, more than 10 video clips, 3 web series, 1 feature in production and more than a hundred advertisements.Paul Bessa is a DOP and director. Comentei com o Pedro que tinha uma locação interessante e que podíamos filmar algo potente. This is my first "Director" debut, a privilege new title I am happy to play with. Our dip·tych heralds two stories of love. Of coming home to ourselves, over and over, through the dance.Act 1 - Mary Oliver's "Wild Geese" attunes us to the animal body, and belonging. Geraldine and Michaël Castalan's dual-tone intimate dance contrasts with the wall of the beach shack of my home stay, a Chinese immigrant to Thailand who grew his own garden and allowed us to film here.Act 2 - Jim's poem, which seems about "lover-love" was in fact written about coming to know himself, after a night awake. Mine and Bernardo's (German, 70's) hand dance, reflected the playful dances we had at jams that month. Mangosteen was the fruit introduced to me by Geraldine, who came to Thailand from Columbia for this fruit. Mangosteen trees take 8 -15 years before they bear fruit. Known as "the Queen of fruits" and common in Southeast Asia. Her work is inspired by collaborative practices, improvisation, contemporary partnering, and interactive technology. Jennifer has been making short dance films since 2014, exploring composition within the frame and the relational possibilities between subjects and the camera. Jennifer has screened films in North and South America, Europe, and East Asia; and has served as cinematographer for three films under the direction of Marta Renzi. Jennifer teaches on the faculty of Slippery Rock University, where she chairs the Department of Dance. In 1997, she served as a co-curator for CI25 at Oberlin College. In 2022, she returned to Oberlin to serve as a panelist for a contemporary film festival “Critical Mass: CI@50” that celebrated the intersection of Contact Improvisation and film.Director Statement"Fragile" was a collaborative effort with choreographer and filmmaker Jon Evans to explore the themes of decay and fragility in a relationship. Shot on conservancy grounds near Wolf Creek, Pennsylvania, the dancers are balanced on shifted blocks of ice flow.

The choreography reflects the ebb and flow of emotions, mirroring the changing colors of the twilight sky. The declining sun acts as a metaphor for the waning connection between the two dancers. Through intricate movements and intimate contact, they explore the depths of their discord, creating a visually stunning and emotionally charged performance. The film is told through the composition of vignettes and is inspired by somatic dance practice. It is deeply concerned with how womxn of color navigate social and cultural surveillance, male validation, and a myriad of other standards and demands. The contours mentioned in the title refer to the lines that map the experiences and emotions for how womxn live in their bodies. All of the womxn who participated in the creation of the film (currently living in South Korea as foreigners) have contributed to sharing how they disturb, complicate, excite, and add weight to gendered spaces. Her creative practice allows for collaborative exchange, and is multidisciplinary, dabbling in poetry, circus arts, and dance. She has created work primarily for live performance. Marcia’s poetry has appeared in publications by the Los Angeles Poet Society Press, and Chasing Dreams Publishing. She has written and conceptualized performances focused on community engagement and embodied movement. Marcia has performed in and created work for the Red Eye Arts Festival, Project C Art Party at Rebel, Rebel Live Action: Eco Art Festival, Big Day South, and the National Arts Festival (Makhanda). Seek Body Contour is Marcia’s first project in filmmaking. Director StatementSeek Body Contour is a visual exploration of revisiting, and healing the rejected parts of ourselves. The movement interactions and performances create the experience of WOC (womxn of colour) through self-narrative texts and movement. While leading this project, I was engaged in my own healing and in how I have actively sought out ways to advocate for myself as a WOC. I worked with three other WOC, who like myself, are living in a foreign country (South Korea). Attempting to root oneself on foreign soil includes the experience of imagining and reimagining our identities. Seek Body Contour observes how the body remembers and stores traces of emotions and memories. This film explores how the body can be a space of liberation and safety.
