---- Born in Berlin in 1913, Meret Oppenheim grew up between Germany and Switzerland, nourished from an early age by literature, dreams, and an imagination freed from convention. Encouraged by female figures who were both artists and feminists, she claimed her independence as a teenager and chose artistic creation as a territory of freedom. In Paris, at the beginning of the 1930s, she joined the Surrealist circle around André Breton, Alberto Giacometti, Jean Arp, and Man Ray.In 1936, her now-legendary object Le Déjeuner en fourrure (Breakfast in Fur) propelled her onto the international stage. Yet behind this meteoric success opened a long inner crisis: doubt, depression, and creative silence accompanied her return to Switzerland during the war. Oppenheim endured these years as a necessary descent, exploring her dreams in the light of Jung and refusing all forms of assignment — artistic, social, or feminine. Her resurgence in the 1950s revealed a free, ironic, and multifaceted body of work: paintings, sculptures, poetry, and uncanny objects in which humor and metamorphosis defy logic. Meret Oppenheim embodied a radical idea: the creative mind is androgynous. Until her death in 1985, she upheld a vision of art as a space of absolute emancipation, where imagination becomes an act of resistance and joy.
