Spencer Boys

A student filmmaker looking to progress, provide stories and perspectives to provide a voice and draw attention to important matters.

Dir. Statement : Hi, I'm Spencer Boys. A 17-year-old, UK student. The following film was made for part of my course. Alongside the interviewers that feature in the documentary, the whole 21 minutes of this film were produced, directed and narrated by myself on a DSLR Canon Camera.

By producing this short- documentary, I hope to educate people about the serious matter of race and ethnic representation within film from over the past and present day. This topic appealed to me cause from a young age of consuming film, it became apparent several social groups largely lacked vital representation.

I hope you enjoy and learn something from this documentary.

Ben Guest has directed several award-winning documentaries, including The South Will Rise Again, which played nationally on the Aspire network. Ben has a BA in English from Amherst College and an MFA in Film Production from the University of Southern California.

Dir. Statement: Historically, improv has mostly been a white, male space. And in L.A., most new improvisers are in their twenties. I made this film to celebrate two Black women in their thirties, trying something new, in a space that wasn't necessarily built for them.

A short-form student documentary highlighting the importance of race and ethnicity in the film industry.
