The Boulder Jewish Film Festival is thrilled to honor documentary filmmaker Pierre Sauvage with a unique five-program retrospective. Described by Tablet Magazine as "a filmmaker of rare moral perception," Sauvage has consistently probed questions of ethical choice, focusing on humanity’s failure during the Holocaust by underscoring what it was possible to do. The festival’s exclusive tribute culminates with Sauvage’s seminal Holocaust history/memoir, “Weapons of the Spirit,” newly remastered in widescreen for its 30th anniversary. The 2021 all-virtual festival also includes four documentaries produced and directed by the pioneering filmmaker.
The festival presents this in-depth guest speaker series in partnership with the Boulder JCC’s Irene Rosenschein Memorial Holocaust Education Fund. Our retrospective is the first time all of Pierre’s work will be shown together in the U.S. Except for the Varian Fry work-in-progress, the mini-festival will be available to viewers nationally. A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to the Chambon Foundation. The nonprofit foundation was created by Pierre in 1982, "to explore and communicate the necessary lessons of hope intertwined with the Holocaust's unavoidable lessons of despair."
