Join Ellen Shelton for this wonderful introduction to 3 FACES.
BendFilm's latest "Take Four" Series features four Iranian directors who are known for retelling timeless, often true stories, and for their fascinating use of non-professional actors in roles so natural they feel unrehearsed. 3 FACES is the third film in this new series of Iranian Cinema.
3 FACES (d. Jafar Panahi, Iran, 2019, 101 min)
Actress Behnaz Jafari is distraught when she receives a young girl’s video plea for help after her family forbids her to enroll in the Tehran Drama Conservatory.
Behnaz abandons her shoot and asks filmmaker Jafar Panahi to drive her to the girl’s village in northwestern Iran. When they arrive, the girl is missing and they begin to fear the worst, well aware of the deep patriarchal traditions of that region.
Winner of Best Screenplay at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival.
BendFilm Associate Programmer Ellen Shelton gives a short introduction to the film and its director and will answer any questions you have directly at ellen@bendfilm.org.
