Each panelist has a sustainable mindset adopted into both their personal and professional lives. This conversation is about reframing a person's outlook to dispel the convoluted, false notions that have become synonymous with sustainability, because as one adopts a sustainable mindset, they will save money, invest in their future, and benefit the community. Sustainability equates to building instead of disposing, creating an ecosystem and improving relationships for current and future projects.
This discussion dispels the false notion that sustainability equates to a high upfront cost for a little savings later, or that it is silly solutions that don't work on a film set (e.g. reusable water bottles for set crew). Sustainability is actually the opposite of that. It's about changing our perspective on the world to center it in reuse, circularity, waste reduction and reducing emissions. We stop discarding a broken item instead of repairing it, buying the cheapest thing possible despite its materials that aren't made to last, and thinking that buying used is somehow inferior to buying new. We must be forward-thinking rather than using the easiest-possible solution.

Panelists:
Dan Rosenfelt is responsible for the greenest studio in the world. Electric Owl is the only LEED gold certified film and television studio. As cool as this is, how he and his team did it was even cooler. They used sustainability as a lens to purpose build it from the onset. They discovered innovative solutions to keep costs down, such as partnering with Cherry Street Solar to not have any upfront costs for their multitude of solar panels. Dan now adopts this sustainable way of thinking into his everyday life. He is not afraid to be bold, and will be the first to adopt a new sustainable technology.
Lauren Gloster is the Director of Client Services for Earth Angel. Atlanta is extremely lucky to be home to one of the heads of the industry-leading consulting agency for sustainability. Earth Angel Sustainable Production Services advises clients of any budget, and the earlier the better, because when one starts adapting a sustainable mindset—it becomes all the more easy to reduce waste, lessen emissions and to strengthen a project's positive impact on the community in which they film. Lauren has dedicated her life to making the world a better place, and the impact she has had helping people adopt sustainability into their personal and professional lives is immeasurable.
Ben Hall is a Sustainability Advisor for Netflix. He was recently in charge of a cool show that can't be mentioned due to a Non-Disclosure Agreement, but his forward-thinking reduced carbon emissions on it drastically. Due to his department's limited budget, he consistently researched and adopted new, cost-friendly solutions to reduce emissions and the pollution caused by one of the biggest projects in the world. While researching and reducing carbon emissions was the priority, he helped reframe the mindset of a reluctant crew who began adopting sustainability and reducing waste. Ben uses these tools while directing his own films, which have an ever-increasing budget, and keeps sustainability at the forefront throughout their production.
Tanjuria Willis is a tireless advocate for sustainable fashion, and the founder of Atlanta Sustainable Fashion Week. (Join us on April 25, 2025, as we celebrate Earth Day at The Supermarket, Atlanta, for a night of upcycled fashion, visionary designers, and a cinematic experience like no other.) The apparel industry accounts for 10% of global carbon emissions, and 20% of all freshwater pollution is made by textile treatment and dyeing. This is of particular note for the film industry, because the wardrobe department accounts for some of a production's biggest waste after photography concludes. Tanjuria is a wealth of information on eco-friendly brands, sourcing sustainable materials and promoting reuse and circularity through sustainable shopping. She prides herself in connecting people, organizations and ideas to make a more sustainable world.
