SYNOPSIS:

Pedralbes: despertant la reina' chronicles an unprecedented archaeological and scientific investigation inside Barcelona's iconic Gothic monastery. Focusing on the recent study and restoration of its medieval tombs, the documentary bridges the gap between past and present. Through state-of-the-art conservation techniques, bioarchaeology, and archival research, the film uncovers the hidden legacy of Queen Elisenda de Montcada and the silent community of women who shaped medieval society. It is an intimate, visually captivating journey into the physical and spiritual heart of 14th-century heritage, revealing secrets preserved in stone for seven centuries.


ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:

Francis Manzano has been a journalist since 2001 and specializes in the television feature format. He has produced hundreds of them over the last 20 years for various programs on Televisió de Catalunya (TV3) and for the Barcelona television station betevé, where he currently works. In 2022, he made his directorial debut with a feature-length documentary about education (Blau, blanc, verd [Blue, White, Green]). He is now preparing a documentary series about archaeological research in the city of Barcelona, which is set to premiere in 2026.
