SYNOPSIS:

The Amazon, vast and secretive, is a land of myths and cultures to preserve. Long overshadowed by the civilizations of the Andean highlands, it remained on the fringes of history. Only recently has it become a land of archaeological investigation, revealing another side of its story. In Colombia, the Amazon has only cautiously opened up to researchers after the 2016 Peace Accords and the withdrawal of FARC guerrillas from a region they had controlled for decades. At the heart of this unexplored area, in Chiribiquete National Park, in the southeast of the country, lies one of the most inaccessible archaeological treasures on the continent. On the cliffs of ancient mountains towering over the jungle—the tepuis—thousands of red-pigment carvings and paintings bear witness to an ancient history: animals, humans, plants, geometric symbols.

ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:

Juan José Lozano was born in 1971 in Ibagué, Colombia. He has lived between Geneva and Bogotá since the early 2000s. A director of fiction films, documentaries, and animated works, his films explore memory on both an intimate and collective scale. They have been selected for numerous international festivals and screened in over fifty countries.
