SYNOPSIS:

What if the walls could speak? In this episode, we delve into the dark past of Nijenborgh Castle in Weert – a place of power, betrayal, and bloody conflict during the Eighty Years’ War. Who was Count Van Horne, the castle’s most famous resident, and why was he beheaded? To whom did the skeletons belong that archaeologists are uncovering in a mass grave? And just how brutal was life during the sieges, executions, and war crimes that took place here? With unexpected archaeological discoveries, a revealing detail on a centuries-old painting, and a visit to Museum W, we unravel step by step what really happened. Together with a physical anthropologist we uncover the secrets that these human remains still hold. Though Nijenborgh Castle has almost vanished, its stories live on – horrifying, thrilling, and revealing...
