challenging kings and tyrants to create democracy. Through discoveries, reenactments, and expert insight, the film reveals how democracy emerged from conflict and innovation, reminding us that this fragile system remains one of humanity’s most radical ideas.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR:
Florence Tran’s filmmaking is driven by curiosity and an addiction to knowledge. For the past 20 years, she has explored a wide variety of subjects, from neuroscience and genetics to animal intelligence and perception, from the mysteries of the Pyramids, the Arab Spring to sacred rituals and pilgrimages in the Himalayas. Although the subjects are different, each film is at its core a human adventure, a passionate exploration of ideas and experience, be they scientific, historical, political or spiritual. Amongst the 20 films she directed are: “The Dream Life of Rats” (52’ Arte / Gedeon Programmes), “Scanning the Pyramids” (90’, France 5, PBS, Curiosity Stream, NHK / Bonne Pioche), «Lost Tombs of Notre-Dame» (77, Arte, PBS Nova / ZED).
